NZX Energy operates the New Zealand day-to-day wholesale electricity market - from the calculation of energy prices, through the allocation of electricity volumes to participants, to the market settlement process. It also has responsibility for the allocation process for the gas market.
We provide these services to the Electricity Authority and the Gas Industry Company as part of its obligations as service provider, within the requirements of the Electricity Governance Rules and Regulations and the Gas (Downstream Reconciliation) Rules.
NZX Energy also operates the wholesale information and trading system for the electricity market, WITS. Our service provider obligations specify near 100 percent levels of up-time and zero percent processing errors, and we maintain these levels consistently.
NZX, as the Clearing Manager for the New Zealand wholesale electricity market, will clear and settle FTRs when the FTR market begins operation in mid-2013. Information on the consultation, submissions, and other resources are available here.
This intensive two-day course prepares industry participants, stakeholders, major users, service providers and government officials for the challenges and opportunities in a competitive electricity market. Delivered by experienced market practitioners with first hand knowledge of energy markets, the program involves small master-class style presentations, practical case studies and a hands-on experience of electricity market price outcomes.
After participating in the two-day NZX Energy Understanding Electricity Markets course, you’ll be familiar with the fundamentals of electricity markets, how they operate, and be up-to-date with the latest developments in electricity market reform.
Our next course is being held in Wellington on the 10th and 11th of April 2013.
